A belt awl is a leathercrafting tool with a pointed metal shalf on a handle, used to punch, enlarge, or stretch holes in leather for lacing, sewing, or making new adjustment points in a leather belt. It is a type of stitching awl or fid that creates an initial hole, which can then be used to start a stitch or carefully enlarged and rounded out for lacing or for a belt's buckle.
